Quick Summary
Outlander starts out in 1945 with main character Claire Beauchamp Randall returning home from war as a combat nurse. While in Scotland with her husband Frank Randall she accidently time travels through standing stones on Craigh na Dun into the 18th century. The Scots and Redcoats both believe she is a spy. In order to prevent her being taken by the Redcoats she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser whom she later falls in love with as he does too.

Claire is a heroic war nurse who goes from a healer to a witch.
Claire's story begins in 1945 in Scotland after she returns from the war. She was a combat nurse. Mrs. Graham does her tea leaves and palm reading indicating she will be going on a journey and she has two marriage lines which normally would be broken but hers was forked. She accidently travels through the standing stones on Craigh na Dun to the 18th century. Throughout her time there she uses her knowledge of nursing and becomes known as a healer. She doesn't know the ways of living in the 18th century. She meets a woman named Geillis Duncan who she feels a connection to. Geillis has knowledge about natural healing from herbs and plants. Geillis is a suspected witch. Claire ends up being at the wrong place, at the wrong time which lands her being put on trial as a witch along with Geillis. Geillis saves Claire and truly showed she cares.
